Deer hunting heavy wooded to very thick cover. With a max shot range of 100 yards if you are lucky most only 50 to 75 yards very steep hollows and ridges like Cheatham Wma I told my friend I always used my 30-30 He only owns a 270 wsm So I let him use mine this weekend since I had to work . He wants to Buy a new gun to hunt in this kind of area . Im not sure I told him the right info I didnt think the 270 wsm would shoot well through the heavy cover . what do yall think

if you are going to buy a new gun you might as well buy a flat shooting long range gun// would go with the 270 myself that is what I hunt with..

If you never plan on hunting anywhere other than those type surroundings ( 50 to 75 yd-100 max) you would be fine with a 30/30. If you're thinking a 270 WSM would bust brush worse than a 30/30 I couldn't agree with either one. Neither are going to "bust brush" worth a darn. I sometimes hunt with a 45/70 and I'm not going to take a chance on it busting it's way through anything if I can't get a clear shot. If you pick your shots, either would be fine.
