gonna get one of these 2 rifles at some point and just looking for opinions on the difference or pros and cons between the 2. I know about the 7mm08 in general so not really looking for info on it but more as it compares to the 260.

i also was looking at a 257 but will prob end up with another 7mm08 or a 260

I've never owned a 7mm08 but I had a 260 and loved it. Only reason I sold it was because the first rifle I ever bought (rem 700 Classic 25-06) came up for sale and I only need one rifle.

Ballistically speaking, I don't really know as much as some of the rifle guru's on here, but I know the gun had almost zero recoil, was a pleasure to shoot, and I killed a ton of deer with it. Also shot my biggest buck to date with it at 270 yds. My best performance came with hand loaded 129gr hornady sst's.

Even before I started shooting hand loads, I never had a issue with finding ammo. I would just buy it online. I never looked nor expected to find it on any shelf. Never had trouble finding it online. If you have a kid or wife/girlfriend, it would make it even more appealing. IMO.

Pretty much flip a coin- I like the 6.5s so it's a .260 for me. Of course I reload- if you're not a reloader then 7/08 would be better because of more ammo choices.

I've never had a 260 but comparing the two for hunting purposes its not going to a significant difference.
I personally like my 7-08.

I have both a deer won't know the diff. if you reload I think the 260 would have the edge past 600yds . I do think it would be better for someone that needs less recoil {260}. I use berger 140 vld hunting bullets they rip a deer. I put a 1-8 twist barrel on my 260 so I could shoot the longer heavier bullets.

i agree with the sleeker bullets avail in 6.5 and better for long range

flip a coin

i prefer 7mm bullets and love the 7/08

killed several with the 140 bergers as well
i think like five or 6 this past year

I have a 243 and have owned 270, 308 and 7mm08 and was gonna get another 7mm08 but the 260 just seems like a different option. Don't know many that shoot it though to get opinions on it. I am fully aware the deer won't know the difference and both are great rounds. How hard is factory 260 ammo to find these days? anything you give up on the 260 vs the 7mm08 and vice versa?

I was like you I had other cal. just like what I read about the 260 so I got one and really like it. The ammo will be a little harder to find but I see it on the shelves and seems to cost more, if you reload no trouble you can even form brass from 7-08,.243 or 308. I didn't mean to offend you about deer wouldn't know the difference. I would get the 260rem it is a good round. other will say that other 6.5's may be a better choice you could say that about any round out there. You can shoot a heavier bullet in 7-08 but a little more range with 260, are very little difference.

Oh you didn't offend me at all. Just trying to be clear that I understand both are great rounds just looking for what some pros and cons would be
