Absolutely. I'm just yanking bow hunters chains. I love our seasons (except the late MZ and gun openers when the calendar is arranged like it is this year and next).
 
Very long season indeed. i am glad it starts the 28th instead of the 21st. that gives a little more uninterruoted time for squirrel before bow hunters enter the woods. we do have a very nice, super long season.

lol, on occassion. it is sure nice to get a cool late september morning on oak knoll without worrying about walking up a stick slinger
 
I'm new to hunting in Tennessee and see there is a youth weekend. Can the youth hunt with a rifle or muzzle loader? Are there any other rules I should be aware of?

I would think all you need is your TN license, and the youths TN license.

SCN will know for sure though.

It is impossible to answer to answer an open-ended question like that since I have no way of knowing what rules you are aware of.

There are several rules that apply to that hunt and others. I would suggest either getting a copy of the 2013-13 TN Hunting Guide or accessing it online from the TWRA site. Read through the guide on the general hunting regulations and the specific regs for that hunt, and give us a call at (615)781-6580 if there is something you don't understand.
 
I wish we would open bow season the 1st weekend in September like Ky. I would love a chance at a TN velvet buck.
 
I would be all for more green in November, but then I'm from WI and us bowhunters always have about the first 20 days to ourselves. Minnesota's rifle season always opens around the beginning of November and therefore, occurs during the peak of the rut. Having discussed this with many people who hunt both states, they all feel as though WI has a much stronger buck population. Both in terms of quality and quantity.

Do you guys think that a later muzzy/gun season would improve the herd? Or do you think the herd is totally fine the way it is?

I am completely neutral on this because I have not hunted one day in TN. Rather, I am just curious what you all think.

Much of TN already has a more than adequate buck age structure. TN hunters are not over-harvesting bucks because the gun seasons occur during the rut. The areas of the state that do not have an adequate buck age structure generally have very high hunter densities, or low deer densities, or both. So the problem isn't when the gun seasons occur, it is simply too many hunters per deer in that area.
 
Give me the green, I guess I'll take my bow thru most of the season, the first two weeks of Nov. is my best chance of arrowing a buck.

Amen brother, instead of some complaining which weapon is in season, learn to use all of them and hunt the entire season!!!

Simple fix: Don't bow hunt till Oct. and you can carry a MZ all the way till Jan. :grin:
