Guys I'm an old school shotgun man, Remington 1100 or 870, etc. I've shot a lot of different guns but being as I was mainly just a dove and rabbit hunter I saw no need for the "higher end" guns. Well not only getting into duck hunting but also just being in a good space financially I'm long over due to treating myself to a new gun or 2. It would only be a wing shooting gun(duck/dove)I'm leaning towards Beretta A400 and SX3, especially the sx3. I know 12's are the go to for most, myself included but Will a 20 get the job done as good as a 12 on ducks or is it always best bet to take the 12? I have no need, want, or use for long shots or "skybusting" type shots just plain Ol in your face shooting. T.I.A!

I drag a 20 out for long walks or tight shooting and don't feel handicapped. Killed a limit of doves last year with my 20 ga sxs so it doesn't hinder me too bad.

I normally stick to 3 or 4 shot when duck hunting to offset the smaller Hull capacity.

A 20 will work but why ? I wouldn't carry one unless I was shooting something other than steel.
Oh and of the guns you listed I would definitely get the A400.

Handle them all and get the one that points and swings best for you. Also handle both the 26 and 28 inch barrels, they do swing and point a tad different from each other. I shoot an SX3, so I'm partial to it, but the others are fine guns. Personally, I'd go with a 12 over a 20, especially in a gas gun as the recoil really doesn't factor in the equation. I think both of those come in 3 and 3.5 inch chambers, 3.5 won't kill em any deader than 3 inch, but it gives you the option of 3.5 if you just can't find 3 inch shells anywhere. I rarely ever shoot 3.5s.

If you would like a 20 it can do all things a 12 can inside 40 yards. The only disadvantage is that the shells cost the same or more so no advantage there. I took my 20 out on a goose hunt his year and killed a triple with 3" #2 so if it can handle big honkers I would say it can do whatever you want. Just find a gun that fits and one you will be confident with.

Lol loved all the ones I have shot just something about the sx3 that keeps drawing me back. I'm gonna stick with the 12 though I think.

I guess the best thing to do would be to buy both lol

I have duck hunted almost exclusively with my 20ga SX3 for the last three years. I'm yet to feel a disadvantage. I've found the blindsides pattern the best but every gun is different with what load it shoots the best. The A400 and the sx3 are the best two autoloading 20's on the market.
If you shoot ducks when they're supposed to be shot, a 20 will do any and everything a 12 can do. This past year, I pretty much shot my 28 gauge with TSS handloads because I didn't go much. Now THAT is a game changer. I'll put my 28 running 1oz of 9-1/2's TSS up against any gun on the planet for shooting ducks and geese. It's almost unfair. If tss wasn't so expensive the 28 is all I'd ever carry.
