I just grilled my first turkey and it is the best I have ever had!(next to deer of course) We let it soak in salt water for a couple hours in the fridge then rinsed it off. Then I made a paste rub with white pepper, cajun seasonings, lemon pepper mix, paprika, and minced garlic. I let it set in the mix while the charcoal was getting ready then put the turkey on for about 30 minutes. With the added veggie kabobs and rice it was a killer dinner!
Now the story of how we got the turkey: I took a friend out on his first turkey hunt and mine also yesterday morning. After getting the blind up and settled we heard a yelp. I began purring with a couple yelps and the game was on! Hearing that gobbler holler back was amazing! I worked him for 25 minutes and three toms came out to see the decoys we put out. Once they separated, my pal took his shot and tom was down! No luck for me harvesting that day but a great memory and experience with a friend is always great! To say the least now I look forward to turkey season. My wife says our freezer is short on meat so now I gotta go!!! cya and stay safe in those woods!!!
