I have had a 597 and sold it and bought a ruger the remmy shot well but always had feeding issues even with the new clips. So my for my money I would go 10/22 plus I love all the ruger aftermarket.

How old was your 597?? I have read that the Remmy's are working fine now (GunTests).

If I were getting a new 22lr I would go with the 10/22. The aftermarket options for this rifle are endless. If you haven't already, got to Rimfirecentral.com and check out the 10/22's these guys have. I think you will be very impressed.

I had mine probably 4 yrs ago so I guess it was one of the first ones out But I have no regrets I wouldnt trade the ruger for anything.

rem speedmaster,s-l-lr ,no accuracy or jamming problems with any i have ever had dealings with,it seems to be hit or miss with the standard barrel band model 1022's,that said the marlin 60 is hard to beat cost wise.if your just wanting a good qaulity rimfire try a marlin lever action, they can be scoped if you prefer,mike243

Everyone who shoots needs to own a 10-22. It is the most diverse 22 rifle out there. As said previously, you can trick one out afar as your budget will allow. There are tons of cosmetic upgrades as well as several accuracy upgrades if you decided to take it more seriously. I personally want a gun that looks like crap but shoots like a champ.

I was making the same choice last year and went with the 597. Haven't shot it much - but have had 0 issues with it (other than the occasional bad round out of the box of cheap-o 22 ammo). The aftermarket argument for me was a non-issue since I was just going to leave it stock.
