NFL Free Agent

In no way do I follow the NFL. I am a fan of football, however. With that said what are the cons (apart from not getting a guaranteed salary)of being an undrafted free agent in the NFL? I ask because one of our local kids is in that situation. It is a great family and the entire community is hopeful for him.

Chances of making a roster is a lot harder and if they do probably league minimum which is still over 700k. Let that sink in.

Tougher to get a spot on the team, but undrafted free agents have been successful in the past. Tony Romo, Kurt Warner and Wesley Walker all come to mind.

Word is that he has turned down an offer. Im just wondering if it's because undrafted free agent deals are undesirable.

Not always. In some cases they actually make more than late round picks.

or they may just play on practice squad and make (what I hear/read) in the low 6 figure range

Was he turning it down to do another year in college? These days they may make more in college by doing so

That's a good question. Not sure why you would turn it down unless you have a better option.

No he's played collegiate for 5 years. Hes done.

I guess I could work for that as a 22 or 23 year old kid. Heck I'd do it at 51.
