Duck season is over so I made my first crappie forays of the year. Thursday I just went and played, shore fishing a couple of spots. My first crappie of the year was a beast!
Friday me and Ross Malone went and explored Chester Frost (on Chickamauga Lake). It was windy and BITTER cold. Ugh! We are hardcore longliners and went with that technique. We didn't get skunked (which is really what I expected). We caught six solid keeper crappie (all 10-15 feet deep), some assorted stripe, yellow bass, yellow perch, bluegill and even a 17-inch bass. I put him (along with the others) in my freezer because it had a huge, deep gash across it's back. The only thing we could figure was that an eagle or osprey talon tore into him. Here's a little video of crappie #6: https://youtu.be/IGf0Qo5xTK4 Make note, Crappie Magnets (made by http://www.troutmagnet.com) have become my "go to" plastics for longlining. And for years I have proclaimed my favorite color as "Red & green, baby... red & green!" BTW, when I say green, I mean chartreuse. AND, black/chartreuse is great as well.

But the first trips were good, and that means life is good and gettin' better every day.
