First off, Thank You to everyone who has contributed to this website; it has offered me a wealth of information. I have been hunting for 3 years to no avail, until now.
I got my first ever deer today and will fully process it myself. Nothing special but it warms my heart to fill my family's bellies.
I'm hoping to preserve the hide myself, wish me luck!

That is the most special deer, right there. You'll never forget it or have it blur together with others in your memory.
Congratulations, man! You'll get even better at this. Best part, as you've already discovered, is you get to keep enjoying this hunt every time you cook this meat, process the hide, etc.

Hell yeah!! Great job. As others have said, that IS a special deer. It's your first, you put in the work and you're now able to provide meat for your family. Doesn't get any better than that brother, unless of course that deer was holding a Chipotle burrito when you shot it. Thennnnnn.......

😂 😂 Great job brother. Celebrate.

I'm glad to hear you're going to process it yourself. Get the whole experience. Although it's a bit of work, I actually enjoy butchering my kills. I trim them how I want, make the roasts as big as I want, and pack them the way I want.

My favorite hunting memories aren't of killing or seeing big bucks chase does. It's being with my dad and brothers as we break a deer down for the freezer. We'd always argue over how much to trim, how much fat to leave, etc. And we always had tenderloins cooking up to snack on as we cut. I can't really recall ever being much happier than those moments.

Congratulations! 2nd what Ski says about processing your own; some of my best memories are hanging out in the shop cleaning/processing deer after the hunt. If you hunt with friends/family - this is when the shenanigans happen.

Congratulations! Nice deer! I'll never forget my first. It was about 26 years ago.

I miss processing my own. Just don't have time, space or help anymore. Hopefully it will happen again someday.

Enjoy that venison!
