Antler “bulbs”

First deer off the new property so I'm pumped about that. What causes the "bulbs" to form?

Believe it was @gator-n-buck that killed one a couple years ago that several of the tips looked like acorns.

Notice how the bulbs are lined up and how the points with the acorns are much shorter than their matched pair on the other side. The buck cutting his velvet antlers on a straight line would cause the acorns to line up and cutting the velvet would reduce blood flow to the growing antler tines, possibly reducing their total growth (making them shorter).
