Truly was a blessed, special time in the woods this morning. I shot the buck wearing my son Justin's bibs off the Summit stand he gave me. A little bit of Daddy was with me too since I shot the deer with the little CVA Wolf my parents gave me. (We lost Daddy February of '17 and our son passed away in a motorcycle crash May 22nd year before last.)
At around 7:30 this morning the buck chased several does out of the thick stuff but wouldn't follow them to the east out into the more open hardwoods. I hit the grunt tube a couple of times but didn't see or hear anything else until about half an hour later or so. That's when a doe comes back from the east, and after she gets close to me and the transition to thicker woods 50 yds or so to my west, I here a fairly long grunt. Maybe he saw her? In any case, in maybe a couple of minutes later he comes into sight from the thicker woods transition and I waited for a broadside shot at 40 yds or so. I was shaking so bad I dropped my binoculars but thankfully they're ok.
Hope y'all are having a good season so far as well! Stay safe out there, and cherish the good times and most important, the loved ones and friends the Good Lord gives us!
Blessings in Christ,
Dave
