It's hard for me to see 170's either but that velvet can put on some inches. Or maybe the pics are deceiving. Or maybe someone just high scored the heck out of it. Regardless it's a great buck.

If the g-2's matched the g-3's I could possibly see it being near 170, but that "rough green score" was really rough I believe.

Their category is denial in b&c. Not sure about p&y

Awesome buck!... Congrats to the hunter!

For scoring velvet bucks I wasnt sure either? So out of curiosity I looked it up and for B&C the velvet must be removed before official scoring....For P&Y I found the following statement:

"The Pope and Young Club will accept antlers in velvet for entry and are ranked in their own velvet trophy category for each category of antlered game".

Also read that the minimum entry requirements remains the same for the velvet category.

For future reference it's circumference measurements, not girth.

Hey OP, I enjoy estimating B&C (Boone and Crockett) scores for white tail;

  • I like to practice so when I am in the field I can estimate on the fly.
  • It is fun to see what folks are shooting and engage.
  • All my scores are based on photos you posted to here, thus it may not be accurate. Normal B&C scores are done with a 1/4-inch wide flexible steel tape to the nearest one-eighth of an inch. I do not go to the 1/8 inch. I do whole inches and go off photos and use things in the photos for approximate references!
  • Also, I do gross score and don't do the whole subtract for atypical stuff.
  • Of note, circumference (mass) is tough to gauge off of photos

Based on the pics in the link , my estimate B&C for that gentleman's deer is:

188 points.

Of note, coleman cooler lid in the photo is 25.25 long per amazon (it's the Coleman 48 Quart Cooler). The inside main beam is at least this, i estimated 28. Also, the G3s are INSANE, I estimate around 15 inches EACH. Plus big mass, i think between G3 and G4 you may have 6 inches of mass there, per SIDE.

My estimate is actually BIGGER than the articles of 175. But yes, its all of 175. Also, they "scored the buck at 175 inches (rough green score)" . I am not familiar with the green score. I assume that means before it dries out a bit. But ye this is a BIG BOI.

man, fantastic TROPHY BUCK MAN
