I remember running trotlines with my dad too to catch fish to eat. I doubt most people running trotlines now are depending on them to survive. I think they should be outlawed completely just on general principle. If you want to catch fish use a fishing pole. I fish all over in my boat, in a canoe, kayak, and a jet ski on the river. I have not gotten caught in a line yet but I have cut many a rusty hook off limb lines all over the river. Got hung up while casting on lines everywhere. Trotlines were a subsistence type fishing tool that is outdated as dynamite. IMO but that's all we got to go on is opinions.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I am guessing yours will be quite unpopular here.

What if those kayaks aren't using a public boat ramp? What if they're only going where a boat with a motor can't go? Would that be different? What about when I'm fishing a remote trout stream in the middle of nowhere, should I register and pay a fee for my wader's as well?
So I thought about my statement and I should have not stated fees to access public boat ramps but a registration fee like most people have to pay that has a floating vessel utilizing public waters, which my opinion is paddle boards, kayaks, etc need to be included. Just like people that have boat slips that are private they still have to pay their registration fee so point taken regarding my parking lot remark. Regarding going where a boat can't go, there are airboats that could go where they couldn't.

Just remember what your being told fellas. They are moving here in the droves to escape liberal states. They don't want to change TN. Next will be the bicyclists and something they want to change about 2 lane country roads. Trust me it gets worse as time go's by. Somehow they can't look in the mirror and see they ruined they're state. Go to FL if want to see the aftermath.

Make them there own private launching ramp and make a rule to stay out of the channel. Can't remember how many times I've went to put my boat in and the kayak people have the whole boat ramp and banks clogged up. Takes them 30 min if lucky to get out of the way. And once on water they can't stay close to shoreline they have to be right in the middle of the channel buoy's

Back your boat down the ramp they will move.

I launch 2 Hobies from a utility trailer in under 5 minutes. I don't know why some kayakers are lolligaggers. And boat launchers for that matter. Launch the POS and GTF out of the way.

Personally I think they should stop registrations on everything. I pay enough taxes anyway.
It's sad how people's minds automatically go to the place of "tax it! make them register! make them buy a license!" We all pay too much in taxes, have to register too much stuff, and buy too many licenses. F big govt.

Kayaks/canoes should be registered just like any other watercraft and the big float company's need a quota of how many floaters they can release at one time. They ruin my summer time fishing/boating on the buffalo. Mainly inexperience floaters and drunks…… always problems with them

I was fishing on the Tennesse River one morning and I was pulled over by a police officer. I said hey how are you and he yelled "the rivers closed". I asked what happened thinking a tragedy had occurred and he said "there's kayakers coming down the river". I said ok why does that mean the rivers closed. I said there were no signs at the ramp and I just passed a barge. He said "well its not technically closed". I just sat there in silence until he finally said just stay over to the side. It was concerning to think that in his mind 50 kayakers can "shut down" the Tennessee River.

Pestilence I do love that and I agree at times. While not a fan of trotlines in this day and age, I get pissed when I'm in line to put my boat in and two kayaks are sitting on the ramp. Guys putting more rods and fishing gear than I have on my boat on the kayaks one rod at a time. They could easily move to the side and do all that. Pestilence is a great description at those moments. I never thought about the fact that they don't contribute a penny to the building or maintenance of the ramps either until this thread opened my eyes.

Here's what I suspect happened- kayaker found the line at the bank and was attempting to run it when they hooked themselves. How else would the line have gotten across the deck of the boat?

Even if it was floating on the surface, the kayak would have simply floated across it.

DA/TWRA couldn't prove someone was attempting to steal fish, so harassment was the next best option.

What's especially troubling is the judge's mindset- I'll set aside the public's right to quiet enjoyment of fishing for the sake of a little sales tax in the local coffers.

Next time you see someone with a Jon Boat paddling. Think about this statement. Ask him where His Boat,Kayak,Canoe and Jet ski are ?? Ask him why he's carrying a Jon boat in the back of a old truck with no trailer ? Plenty of folks still fish to eat.
