Hey All,

I'll be moving to TN and settling just East of Spencer in the Long Branch Lakes community. I am an avid hunter here in AZ and plan on continuing to hunt when we move. I'll be browsing old topics and trying to soak up all the info that I can before moving. In Arizona we do a lot of glassing for deer and from what I've see from my travels in TN the hunting will be quite a bit different. I look forward to the challenge and can hopefully become successful in time.

Welcome to the Volunteer State! I'm just the next town over in Sparta and one of my hunting spots is just east of Spencer ironically. You've located in a part of TN that offers a lot of spectacular hunting and Van Buren County ranks among the top counties for bucks that qualified for the TN Deer Registry. In fact, I'm pretty sure it holds the most registered non-typical trophies of any of our 95 counties. As stated above, almost everything will be close encounters here relatively speaking when compared to what you're accustomed to. I have considerable high-end glassing wear and spotting scope but have never used them in TN, only when I go to Texas. It will be a learning curve indeed. I'm going to my spot east of Spencer to refresh a salt lick the week after Memorial Day and would be glad to hook up with you and share some important things I've learned hunting this area for 47 years. I'll be back there in mid-July to put out a camera, so that's another option. Enjoy the beautiful mountains of TN and best of luck to you.

I'd love to be there to go with you but were still in AZ. We've got a lot of moving parts here but should be in TN by the end of the year. If you don't mind I'll put this offer in my back pocket and pull it out when we get steeled.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Welcome to the fire. You won't need to glass as much out here, as others have said. Depending on the type of hunting, you'll be within 40-60 yards shooting deer...usually closer.

Personally, I shoot all my deer (singular) at 300+ yards 🤣 wearing shorts, holding a beer. I had a camo coozy soooo.....

Good luck with the move. You won't regret it.

That's awesome! Since we take such long shots here in AZ there's really not a need for camo here either. All of my deer (plural) have been over 350yds. I'm not sure I could hit a deer than close! 🤣

I've got a bow and only have used it a few times with no luck. Might have to put in the work to get batter at it!
You want those close up archery opportunities, we've got em here. Too many hills and trees in this part of the state for long range. You find a funnel and post up and you're golden.

Also, unrelated but... You will be very close to one of the best gun ranges in the state with Dead Zero right there in Spencer area.
