What is the best app for an iPhone to use for deer hunting? It would also be a plus if it would sync with an iPad. Please give reasons why a particular app you use is great.

Got a new iPhone and want to get an app.

Thanks for your help.

What sort of app are you looking for? I can't think of anything I would want other than a GPS if I was some place I wasn't familiar with.

I read somewhere on a forum where there was an app where you could mark stand sites, use weather and solar/lunar info, kill/shot markings, gps and even a blood tracking device in an app. That is what I am looking for.

I think you are talking about Cabelas Recon. It is a pretty slick app. I use it a lot when I am scouting new areas, hunting and such. If you will readily use it (like I do), it is worth every penny of the $4.99 cost.

we enjoyed the actinnature app this past season.....lets you see where your buddies are in relation to you, lets you realize how close you are and where trails and stands are on the map too.

In reading reviews on Cabelas Recon I came across issues with it locking up on downloading maps but also rapid battery usage. Are you guys using this app experiencing this or has Cabelas fixed this with upgrades?

It has not locked up on me yet (been using it for a year, with a lot more use in last 6-8 months) and the battery drain with it is thus far has not been any more noticeable than using any other apps. I might add that I use it in spurts (open it, check a few things, then close it) and never just open the app and let it run constantly for minutes/hours on end.

Hey bigasports...

I actually read some on iHunt Journal and liked the fact that it would automatically sync with my iPad. Does Recon do that?

Hal,
I have Recon but have not really used it much the other apps I mentioned seem to do all that I have needed. I have an iPad but not sure I ever opened recon on it. Give me a call if you have any questions buddy.

I use HuntStand app. You can check it out on the App Store. I like it and it's free with the option to upgrade.

Been using HuntStand for years now. I would like to find something that gives you wind directions from last year and before and now of course. To at least maybe have a good average not 100 percent. But haven't found it yet.
