Loading a deer in truck bed by yourself!

So, I'm trying to figure a way that my soon-to-be 80 yr old dad can load a deer by himself when I am not with him.

He will be hunting from a shooting house in a food plot, so there shouldn't be any extended dragging etc.

I came across this video, and it looks like it should work perfectly, although he will have to pull the deer with the truck to a tree close enough to use.

If anyone has a better suggestion, please share.

I've got a game hoist I bought at Bass Pro a couple years ago that goes into a 2" hitch. Use it to skin and quarter but it also swivels 360 degrees. That's supposed to allow you winch it up, swivel around into truck bed, then crank it down. Can't remember exact brand but just google deer hoist for truck and you'll find several

The way I do it is to use the long piece of a ratchet strap. Make a loop between the tag end and the loop at the bottom of the hook and wrap the hook around antlers or neck. Use the tailgate catch and lift the head up as high as I can by dragging through and then tie it off. Take a second strap and use the loop on the back legs and then climb up in the truck bed holding the tag end of that. Pull up the legs and roll the deer in. I'm not 80, but I had back surgery a few years ago, and this is just how I adapted to do it without hurting myself. A come-a-long hooked at the front of the bed would eliminate the majority of the lifting.

Have done similar to the above post by TNGunsmoke. Rope around neck or antlers and pull up as high as I can, then tie it off. Then grab the legs and pull them in and slide the deer in. Now I just drag our deer to the tractor bucket.

I'm no help but I like the video. I had a block and tackle on my boat that I used to load alligators but I could secure it to my tower. I learned the hard way that one person is not capable of loading a 12 ft. gator into the boat. Luckily another hunter was nearby and offered their help.

Dad's a pretty good shot, but I doubt he could make one drop at the edge of a ditch !

A come-a-long hooked at the front of the bed would eliminate the majority of the lifting.

I actually have a couple of different crank-type winches that I had thought of making some type of system for him.

Years ago I loaded a 10 point onto the roof of my pathfinder. I threw a rope across a limb and tied to the deer's neck in the center and my trailer ball on the other. I pulled forward to hoist the deer up in the air and tied the other end off to the tree. Then I backed under the deer and lowered it on top. This could be done easily to load a deer into a truck bed.

If you have a 12 volt AC input in the bed of the truck you could mount a small electric winch.

I bought my dad a could sleds to roll the deer on and drag out with atv. but he hunts out his back door. i'd probably rig a cheap harbor freight atv winch up to a 2" pipe with a cable through it clamped to tie downs in bed then a couple 2x8xbed length fit together for the ramp.

I have been using one for years, makes getting them up real easy. I originally got it to field dress and quarter my deer, but have since erected a permanent gambrel stand, but still use it to get it into the truck to get it there. I did have to weld together an extension piece on mine but it's mainly due to the gambrel I use, it's long.

After two hernias probably from loading up big IL deer, it was time to try something else. I used Lade's hangulator for skinning, but we never had it with us when it was time to load one. This Viking product makes it super easy, and it folds down to nothing. But, it looks like it is out of stock right now.

I've gone to using a hitch haul. Let's me use my Tahoe for more dry storage of gear than my truck.
