Someone has a couple 60 yard turkey guns in the classifieds if you're looking for one.

I'm just saying that with the tss and hevishot more of these guns are 60 yard guns than not. It's just a matter of where everyone chooses to touch off the trigger. I'm looking for one in my lap as most of you are, but the weapons are much more capable of shooting well beyond the distance one has any business shooting.

True. I'm still shooting a 12 gauge with 3.5 inch TSS. It's overkill, but I lost a bird once I shot at 42 yards and I never want that to happen again. But 60 is a poke. I think about standing on the goal line and shooting a turkey on the other 40 yard line. That's a looong way to shoot a turkey.

I hunt with a 10 gauge... I don't let them get too close because I want to eat some of it.

:)

Seriously though, I used to hunt big fields in Mississippi and made some long shots once birds hung up. In TN, I don't think I have shot farther than 25 yards.

I killed exactly one turkey with a 12 shooting 3.5" tss, probably 30 yards or so. Ruined the bird, completely FULL of #9 shot. Never again!

Due to idiots on other social media platforms and piss poor marketing, most new turkey hunters think 60 is normal and 80 is a long shot....
Had a guy tell me the other day he wasn't scared to shoot one at 90-100 yards with his mossberg. These are the kind of people we share the woods with.

I haven't considered that. This is my first year shooting it. I used the last of my last Hevishot last year.
Don't shoot the bird unless you have a full head /neck shot. I've killed 14 with TSS, and all have been just fine to eat. But my kids have shot several a tad low and you have to throw away the top half of the breasts if you fill them with #9 TSS shot. That stuff is not forgiving when you bite down on it, and good luck chasing down those tiny pellets before you cook it. Fortunately, it penetrates so well at normal distances most shot passes clean through a bird.

Sighting my Mossberg 835 ultimate, Atibal red dot sight, kicks .670 i feel comfortable taking a deadly shot upto 45 and not ruin a bird at 25 either.
Being 3rd year turkey hunter and not harvesting a bird yet (0 shots taken)I like the 3.5" TSS #9s and overall shotgun setup to maintain my confidence, waterfowl I shoot a SX2 green fiber front bead 3" #4s most of the time with 12 3" #6s in the blind bag if if turns out the teall and woodies are flying good. Shooting a Coke can at 25-35 yards seemsTo be a better indicator and target par active for patterning, aim small miss small.
Sitting in one spot motionless for over an hour that red dot as well as my sling lessen fatigue and improve accuracy and confidence.
The 3" long beard 7s also provide a good pattern if conditions change overcast maybe rain (private land, where legal ) better chances at a closer shot.
Feel free to provide any alterations to my setup you pros recommend!
