I've been lucky to have 2 from the backyard so far and 1 in the woods on public land. Might make one more trip to public land but the fishing is so good, it's hard to make time to drive an hour south to shoot squirrels.

It sure is tough. Get em low in the trees, or get lucky and spot one up high which is very hard. Mod choke on the shotgun, and a .177 air rifle for the back yard worked for me this spring.

Shooting backyard squirrels, son, ain't hunting! lol If you are going to shoot tame squirrels, you would probably do better in a city park. lol
One summer I caught 37 tomato raiders in my backyard in a hav-a-heart trap, and released them in the bottoms. Kinda like running a trot-line, the anticipation of wondering what's in your trap.

No, they are far from tame... they all know a window opening means being shot at, and run for cover. I rarely get within less than 20 yards of one. I did have one young one this year that was unusually unwary of my presence and I got a lot closer, but most of them are just as hard to kill as any other wild squirrel.

My dad use to pop tree rats in the back yard all the time for eating his bird feed. they would take off when the door opened or they heard him pump the pellet gun. They even got to the point if they were up in a tree that would jump down to the ground to run away. Even if they were up 30 or 40 feet.

i killed 4 this morning, killed all of the ones i saw. got hot awful quick so i didn't hunt to long

I got three this morning, missed a few others. I shot one that was at least 80 feet up a tree, watched him fall and hit the ground. I went over to pick him up and he jumped up and ran back up the tree. I can't believe he survived that fall!

Oh yeah... here they have long routes through certain branches, so seemingly within seconds the a squirrel will be in a tree 2 neighbors down from our yard just jumping and running around through different trees 50 feet in the air.
