Anybody hunting yuchi this weekend?

Me and my Dad are hunting it. We both got our doe out of the way this morning before it started raining. I seen 9 total, 1 buck couldn't really tell what he was, don't think he was legal. Deer seemed to be moving good this morning.

Hopefully we see a legal buck in the morning.

Yes, and it really messed up a buddy's hunt up there Saturday as well. He had a 130" 10 pt come in first thing within 30 yds I believe it was, a couple of 100" 8's and a good 7 pt, all before he saw a doe. Maybe he'll chime in on his experience.
 
I have several points built up for President island. I was going to just go ahead and put in for Yuchi but when it went earn a buck, there was no way. I figured with my luck I would have the buck of a lifetime come up first thing. Sounds like your buddy has some of my luck MUP! I am hoping next season they go away from this.

I'd rather see a monster I couldn't shoot than not see a monster, personally. Would be a cool memory. I'll definitely put in for the Yuchi EAB hunts each time, but I do live quite nearby. If I would have had to travel a good ways and get accommodations, etc. for a trip, the EAB requirement might put a severe damper on things.
 
I get what your saying younggun 308 but I am not into memories when it comes to a buck that I would actually shoot. I have the last 3 years of letting bucks walk as memories. Earn a buck to me absolutely makes no sense. You want doe killed have another juvenile hunt or increase their limit. I guarantee you the kids will take care of it for you! Again the area manager made that decision and I am sure he doesn't care about my opinion! Lol. I am hopeful that he accomplished his goal and changes it before next season. If not I will just get another point or put in elsewhere, no big deal. Again I don't blame you with living right by the place.
 
I would never put in for an earn a buck hunt. I put in for quota hunts to hopefully kill a quality buck. They would be better off with so many antlerless permits and so many either sex.

That was my complaint to the WMA manager and our TFWC representative before they passed this. But no one would take does there otherwise, and it truly was overpopulated. I tried warning everyone beforehand but no fellow hunters would listen, now they are forcing hunters to harvest does. Population likely will plummet now, and overall hunt quality will also

Actually, they tried that. Very few does were harvested on juvy hunts
 
There are better ways to accomplish Doe management but it takes work and cooperation. TWRA just doesn't do that for whatever reason. I went on an Alabama Quota hunt this year, they needed does killed. So AL Wildlife partnered with a homeless shelter and had staff available during the hunt to collect any deer the hunters didn't want. You simply sent a
Text to the area manager that you had shot a deer and wanted to donate it. Without that, I might have shot 1 doe. With that option, my buddy and I shot 6. We simply took them to the check station gutted and the staff took them. That's cooperation, that's management, that's a wildlife agency working to accomplish goals in a way that makes sense. The TWRA really needs to take lessons.
 
My question is, did anyone give their input before season setting last summer? That was your chance. It will likely be another year or two before they take it back off.
 
Yes , I gave my input but it did no good. Things like this do not bother me as it's very simple. Either you want to shoot a doe first or you don't. I have way too many points to put in for a earn a buck hunt but others who don't mind will like the fact that less people put in for the hunt. Again it's just a matter of personal preference, I don't get tore up about it . The manger has a goal and I hope he reaches it! I figure when he ends it there will be more bucks around that survive because of it for me to use my points on!

No luck, struck out Sunday morning and didn't see anything. My Dad seen 4, 3 does and 1 deer that stayed in the cedars that he couldn't tell what it was. I heard very few shots Sunday. I don't know if any bucks were taken this weekend or not.

Quite a few, from what I've heard. And the doe hunts are for 3 does. And people burned points for them-my daughter had a point and didn't get drawn when she put in for one of the doe hunts
