Both of my kids got drawn for a Oct gun juvy hunt!!! Any suggestions or info that will come in handy. We have never been there before. What should we expect? Thanks for any info. Kiddos super excited, first juvenile hunt they have ever got drawn for..

There are lots of deer. Contrary to the belief of some, no rules are waived for this hunt, so remember that a buck has to be 4pt on one side or wider than his ears (15", I think). It is beautiful, diverse land. Be very careful not to get turned around if you go in the ridges, because as the WMA manager, Bernie Swinney, says, "They may not be that high, but they are STEEP!" They also tend to have a lot of areas that look the same, giving you that de ja vu effect.

75 young hunters, so get off of the fields. Right now the corn is high, but will be harvested soon. Grapes/muscadines are abundant in the woods, but should pretty well be dried up by Oct.

PM me for more info, if you would like.

be prepared for mosquitoes. a thermacell is a must. and watch out for the fire ants. they are everywhere!!

Never been, but going this year. What do you think - fields or woods/ridges for the gun hunt in Nov? Do you scout it prior to the hunt or just walk in and pick a spot?

Scout . You have every kind of habitat you could want at Yuchi . Had alot of success on the right side of the road right before the the big hill across from the house on the privite property . They bed in the growed up draws just east of the big hollow .The old house on the left right past the checking station is a good evening stand for fields if you have a north ,northeast or an east wind . Just my $.02 !

I really don't think I would want to be in those fields on a gun hunt.

if there is anywhere that you can walk in blind and sit down and reasonably expect to kill a deer, this is it.
