Hunted there the 17th but a fellow beat me to my primary stand and he shot a couple of times . The stand is on the right side of road right before you get to the checking station . Go through the gate come to a field on the left go past that and another grown up field take a left . About 50-60 yards turn right into woods which falls slightly into a hollow follow branch / creek until you come to somewhat of a road way (approx. 200yds?) heading up to a top which is a field . On your left is an old cutover and there was plenty of activity of deer coming and going from cutover to field . If you look good you will see my markings to said tree .
Let me just say, that spot was hunted multiple times this weekend... with varying degrees of success. Approach is everything, and someone didn't have the best approach for part of it.
There was deer activity in that location this past weekend. It is very accessible from the road, and very obvious. Sometimes that works to your advantage, sometimes to your detriment.
The gate behind the ranger station was not opened this weekend, so it got very little pressure deep back in there, but close to Bogles Chapel rd got hammered. Also, the middle "island" got hunted hard, as usual.
Lots of shots fired, but only 8 deer had been checked in as of when we went in this afternoon. Several were killed this afternoon, but I don't know how many. Not a really good shot/kill ratio if you know what I mean.
Acorns are raining down out there right now. Hunt near/in/between thickets, clear cuts, and funnels. Food is too abundant to key in on right now, and cover is king.
Good luck. Get in early, stay all day. Amazing to me how many people leave mid morning or half an hour or longer before dark. Those people can push deer right to you.
