Back story. My 10 year nephew has some learning difficulties, plays lots of video games and doesn't care much about the outdoors. Last week I mentioned it was youth weekend coming up and I'd be taking my 4 year old just for the thrill. Low and behold Eli asked if he could give hunting a try. Sure!! So I purchase a scope and rings off tndeer and head to cabelas to buy ammo. Got it dialed in. Let him shoot about 30 yards and he looked good. This morning we couldn't hunt because of soccer so we headed out about 3. And man was it hot. Even harder keeping a 4 and 10 year cousin quite ! They was ready to go soon after but I tried to keep focus off time and talk about hunting. Do some teaching. So along 7 pm i start packing it in. I look up and here he comes and come and comes. A spike looking right at us 15 yards. Now we was hunting out of a old barn on the lower end. After man min he soooks and starts away. Head phones on all the kids check...gun loaded check..gun onrest check...at this point he's 50 yards away. A quick yell and he stops. BOOOOMM. High leg kick and over the field he goes. We gather up to see if we can see blood and when we crest the hill there he stood. Almost ready to go down. Another round chambered and handed the gun to my little buddy. Off handed shot about 35-40 yards..he said "I got this". As soon as he got him in the scope BOOOMM. DEAD DEER. didn't even kick. Man there was some high fives and hugs and hollering going on. My 4 year old was the most pumped I've ever seen him.
Final comments. It was a great day. I had a blast and the best hunt of my life. Take a child hunting or fishing. You may make a lifetime partner.
