your best deer hunting advice

With anything, it really just depends on your situation. What's the best advice you have or have been given? To get things going, here are some of the things we often hear. Sometimes they contradict one another.

• hunt saddles, hunt edges, hunt funnels, hunt a third of the way down a slope
• hunt downwind
• hunt the thickest stuff you can find
• if you can't hunt all day during the rut, hunt 10:00-2:00
• on public land, go far from the road
• on public land, hunt close to the road, the over looked places
• on public land, hunt the hunters
• hunt the does
• hunt the food sources
• hunt fresh scrapes
• don't hunt deer sign, it was probably done at night

What's your best advice?
 
Could think of several "best" pieces of advice. But one that comes to mind... Don't overthink things.

For the most part, forget about the wind. I almost never pay any attention to it. I try to play it if possible when I get to my spot, either by having a couple stands or climb a different tree, but to say because of this particular wind I cannot hunt a certain spot is almost crazy to me.
 
1. Hunt it while it's hot. If you're finding fresh sign indicating the deer are currently using the area hunt it now. They may shift on you overnight.
2. If you're after a particular buck, or any buck with some age on him, you stand the best chance at him by waiting until prime time hunting when he's on his feet during daylight and pre-occupied with the breeding season.
