The dates and times are correct. In my area the peak rut is the last week of the season, but no one ever believe s us!

No pillsbury, our PEAK is the last week of the season in normal years! Why doesn't anyone but southern Franklin county folks know this? ?

Twra did a fetal conception study on this. It's available online that basically confirms what you are saying.

I spoke with a Warden this season at bear hollow and he said he was involved in the study. They basically went to different areas and shot does. He also confirmed that the rut was much later then the Tennessee norm.

I believe you. I've hunted the "Carter" property that borders Bear Hollow WMA. The rut in that part of Franklin county (up on the plateau) doesn't get started until after Christmas and peaks in the first couple of weeks in January..........strange for Tennessee, but true.

Yep, I'm in mid Franklin county and our peak rut is the last half of December. When most hunters on TN Deer are packing up their gear and reflecting on the season while getting ready to go fishing, our bucks are just getting wound up. The week before Christmas seems to be one of the best for me. I've seen that doe conception study also since BSK posted it here a few years back. In fact I keep a copy of it in my truck for reference.

I find it to be funny when someone will argue about peak rut in a certain area of the state when they have never hunted it themselves. And to top it all off there was a study done on this that confirms it. So go argue with the data. People argue with me all the time about southern Franklin county. The hunting does not get good in this area until the last couple weeks of the season.
