My youngest missed a small buck this morning. I guess the Coyote was coming to the kill scene. He was running the buck and stopped down the ridge in front of my oldest. Buck never presented a shot but the male yote made a fatal mistake... Perfect 40 yard shot with a crossbow. He was a happy dude!! Even though my lil guy missed it turned out pretty good!
I was off work today and decided I was going to take a doe.. Well the old nanny I wanted came out and I shot her. I walked the area she went and seen a white belly. Walked up to this deer and seen horns. I told myself there's no way that I mistaked that doe for a buck.... Then it clicked. That is my 7 year olds buck from.Sunday morning. I called my wife to talk to him because he hadn't left for school. Needless to say he was one excited little fella. I went and picked him up and went to drag them out. We found his deer then went on and found my doe. I let him play hookie from school. Lol. I guess the deer yesterday that the yote was chasing was a completely different deer.. The buck left the field yesterday like he didn't have a care in the world and I never found blood or hair. I learned a valuable lesson... We didn't look hard enough.... because of the way the deer trotted out of the field I assumed it was a clean miss. The meat was spoiled and I felt terrible but at least we got the rack and my doe!
