I am trying to learn how to get this jawbone aging thing down. I have learned a lot about it in the past few weeks. If you would, please let me know your opinion on this one and also why. I think that I know but want to see what you guys think before I post mine. Hopefully, the pics are decent enough to tell.

That's a tough one due to: 1) blurriness of the pictures, and 2) the fact the deer's teeth did not erupt properly. The deer has a malformed 3rd premolar, and all of the premolars display an unusual amount of wear. Using just the molars suggests the deer is only 2 1/2. However, that unusual wear on the premolars makes me think the deer might be 3 1/2.

I will see if I can get some more clear pictures. These are cell pictures. My call was 2.5 but again I am trying to learn.

as BSK said, the abnormal 3rd premolar on that jaw is going to throw off normal tooth wear patterns...

see if you can get the opposite side. It may display a more classic toothwear pattern.

Based on that side alone, I'd go with 3.5 as the best 'guess'... but it's mostly a coinflip.

Both sides are shown. The first two pics show the RH side and the second two show the LH side. It shows the suck down premolar on boths sides. Learn something new every day.

Based on body configuration, I am still leaning towards 2.5. However, I only had a few seconds to make the decision and never really got a good look at him. As you can see in the pic below, he had a broken beam, and I didn't know it. He had a fairly big body for the area and could be a rutted down 3.5 since his kneck wasn't swollen, therfore, making what I saw at a glance appear to possibly be 2.5. I could be convinced either way ie a coin flip.

Thanks for the responses! This is really helping me learn. I have a handful of jaw bones saved that I need to take to someone in the know and have them to show me more face to face.
