I'm a newbie. We are over run with yotes. Yesterday I called in a big yellow yote. he snuck into my call and only had a running shot with my ruger 10-22, not sure if I got him or not. 15 minutes later I had one come out the ridge 30 yds filled his frontal with 3 rounds 30yds. Then 5 minute later a yote howled and barked constantly for 45 minutes on next ridge over 400 yds. I tried howling, rabbit nothing! What was she doing? Calling her mate? Very strange to hear howling middle of day. I have mojo critter decoy coming in mail, looking forward. Also what is my best weapon to use? shotgun? my 22. or 270? I usually take 270
 
Take the 270 until you can get a 22-250 (see if twist rate is 1 in 9 if possible). 243 will also work quite well.

Generally speaking you needed to move more toward the howling coyote. Probably has pups in the den so you definitely need to take that one out.

Again generally speaking, a 22LR is not enough medicine for some of the shots that you will get. A dog will hang up 150 - 200 yards and you need to kill it before it picks you out. It lives by detecting movement so you need to be camo'd up and hidden. If you can, make your own squirrel/rabbit decoy place it off to the side 30 yards and with string attached & make it move.

If you walk up on one and it has mange or other skin disease, let it lay.

I have shot them with 300 Win Mag, 30/06 Accelerators, 243, and 22-250.

What you need to do is not miss. They learn quick and won't respond at all to your calling. Then, you need to move up to one of the electronic models.

Kill them all.
 
Use the 270. The barking coyote was warning all the coyotes of your presence. If a coyote makes you out it will bark at you like a dog. The only thing you can do when this happe s is pack up and leave. The more you call to a coyote that knows you're there the more you are gonna educate it.

Thanks for all advise guys, give me a holler Matt. I guess that coyote will be hard to kill now, I set there and used the ico tech, for 30 minutes!!!
