I spent 44 years in NE Illinois and NW Indiana. Had relatives by Saginaw Bay. Fished Lake Michigan Lake Huron Lake St Clair and Lake Erie. A lot of interior lakes of the northern lower peninsula. One time on Lake Michigan before there was a limit wife and I caught 150 yellow perch. It took me 3 hours to clean them. Never did that again.

I did this "once" and like yourself, never again! Now I only keep a couple dozen if that. I can always get more.
Heck yeah! I've not been to the local perch lake this year. Me and the guys from work have been talking about it but never can get together for it. It's too dangerous to go alone.
I haven't been this year either and I agree, even though I have many many times, not a good idea to go alone. Especially in a kayak.
Last time I was in Wisconsin I was talked into having perch. Wasn't bad, but full of bones. I'll take walleye over the perch.

Walleye are in the perch family. Same kind of bone structure. Filet them the same way and no bones.
May I ask where is the local perch lake? Why is it dangerous to go alone?

I didn't filet them, we were at a restaurant. Best I remember one end was fine. Other end was full.
Somebody didn't know how to fillet, mine don't have any bones. As stated, Yellow Perch and Walleye are basically the same thing minus the size. Catch both out of the same water and cook them together and you won't know the difference between the two.
The water there can be rough sometimes in a small craft. It's either glass or a wind tunnel through the gorge. And then there's the crackheads and other "fine upstanding citizens" that hang out in the local "campground". It's kinda out of the way without much law enforcement.
That narrows it down
. I love perch as much as walleye. Used to catch some (what we called) big old Jack Perch through the ice up north. They were 14" - 16" in size. I'm in SE TN and would be glad to go along as back up if ya ever need a hand.
The perch lake always was hard to get to...but harder now. A few years ago, a bunch of trees fell onto the narrow half lane "road" and the forest service cut them just enough to clear the road. Used to, you could get a flat bottom boat and trailer in there. Now, it is tough with just a vehicle. If you meet another one coming out...one of you is gonna have to back up to let the other one pass. But once you get to it....it's paradise. No big boats.

This place is just too small. I wouldn't call it a "secret" but it's secret enough that I can't share the location on a public forum. It's already been exploited more than I would I like. Used to not see a soul. Not so much anymore and most ain't locals.That narrows it down

Huh what's a local mean anymore I don't see many of them anywhere anymore. It's like everyone left and now's there's a whole new group of strangers. But all of a sudden crowded everywhere you go.
The answer is already on this forum and another forum and an easy call to fisheries.

And there in lies my point.
I believe I've found it. I won't tell anyone. But I will try it out. Walleye and perch are my two favorite eating fish. The good thing is, I only keep a few for one or two meals. So you don't have to worry about me deleting the stocks.
