Yep, but I wouldn't complain if it changed back just because someone decided they wanted it that way.

They still did the same thing with physical tags.
It really wouldn't work out now that the license and check stations are becoming far and fewer between since the induction of the new computer system. The places I used to check my deer out have said they're not paying a couple thousand dollars to upgrade to the new system and will no longer be a check station

Not checking them in occurs no matter which way we have to check them in,doesn't make a difference in my opinion.people are either going to do the right thing or wrong thing.

We shouldn't make it easy for them! That's what the current check in system is doing, simplifying their crime!
I do agree with you

any kind of game regulation in this state is a joke! from having one warden for huge counties to check it in if you feel like it when you get home, you have .00000000001% chance of being caught its a poachers dream! pitiful :bash:

What if you had to punch the tags immediately before moving the deer? This is how it is in most western states.

Do you not think that would help?
There would have to be a huge increase in twra leo's to enforce the rules before it would help

I would not mind it, but like others have mentioned, you'd have to have two things happen first.

1. Increase the # of GWs per county.
2. Increase the # of check stations.

The second one will not happen in Mid TN and other populated areas of the state IMO. Regardless if the state makes it free for gas stations to check deer or not, the people in those areas will not tolerate dead deer on the tailgates of Pick up trucks at the gas station on a regular basis (noticed I bolded that last part). No way they are going to subject their snow flake children to the carnage... Also the gas station attendants, will not want to go out and look at the deer. This is more prevalent in women, but there are men that won't go look at it either.

Something Hunter's don't generally think about is that the non hunting public (not to be confused with anti hunters) don't care that we hunt and kill deer, but they do not want to see it on a regular basis. I think the telecheck is as much a forward looking strategy to combat the impending urban sprawl as it is to make it easy to check deer in.

I don't believe that there are enough people abusing the system, as it is now, to justify the additional cost that TWRA would incur by having to distibute 2 tags to all big game hunters.

I don't have a problem with going to a physical tag which must be affixed to the animal prior to removing it from the field then checking it in permanently via telecheck. It would probably help a little, but very little. Poachers gonna poach no matter the regs.

One possible solution with the online check system would be to have the tag attached to the antler with the requirement that a picture be sent in upon check in.

There is very little difference between telecheck and physical tag.

Unless on a WMA or area like LBL, in 30+ years of deer hunting in TN, before telecheck basically no one ever at any check station ever looked at any deer I or anyone I was with checked in. Also as far as I know the physical tags were never collected by any check-in. You could have told them you had a limit of does when you actually had a limit of bucks and no one would have ever known.

Only purpose a physical tag served is if you were checked by a game warden when it was required to be punched and attached to the animal before moving.

Poachers basically have no issue getting around laws until they are caught. Even then, they probably keep on poaching.

A QR code on the back of the tag that you scan when you check the buck out would be easier. They would have to upgrade computer systems to handle thousands of pictures every year.

I would be all for physical tags but like I and others have said, not enough wardens to enforce it so it's not worth the cost to do it

Only unless there is cell service where the animal was killed and it can be telecheked in prior to removal from the field. Otherwise, there is a BIG difference between the two

Don't need any extra wardens because local law enforcement officers (sheriff, THP, city police, park ranger) could issue citations for transportation of untagged animals.

Before online I've had store owners tell me they would check a buck in as a doe so I could keep hunting. If your not honest you'll find a way to cheat. I do the right thing and teach my sons the same.

listen ..........God is talking he said use jackstands......

Ohio issues a specific number for each permit you purchase. You make the tag out of whatever you want. When you check the deer (online or phone) you enter the specific permit number and they already have all of your other information.

Issue 2 permits that must be attached to any buck before it can be moved. Must be attached to the antler. Tag folds/sticks like some Midwestern states do. Make it harder for somebody to cut/reuse. Won't eliminate things but the harder you make, the more people try to play by the rules.

The online check in and deer not being checked in is not a justifiable argument. If someone isn't going to check a deer in then they won't no matter if it's online or in person.

I'm glad it's online. I live in Tn but had to drive 20 miles one way to check one in. So really the old way really made me not want to check them in.

What is the difference? Unless you are on a twra hunt or public hunt that requires checkin or go find a twra manned station opening weekend no one is going to verify your kill other than yourself and whoever you show it to.

It might curb a very small portion of poaching but I don't think it will solve the real poaching problems like road hunting, trespassing, night hunting, etc.

Not trying to cause a rukus but for a fact I know of several that have . No rat but it P.M.O. !!

Poaching has been a problem, always will be. Don't think going back to physical tags would help. But I miss the check-in stations, watching who brings in a deer, meeting, talking, with other hunters. It was part of the hunting experience that's pretty much gone now, as are a lot of other aspects of hunting.

Kinda like the buck limit. Why try and fix something that isn't broken? Your always gonna have those against the system no matter if you had a warden to look at each deer before moving it. Why is there always people wanting to change things to make it more difficult for the people doing things right? Just go out and hunt. If it's meant for you to harvest an animal that day then God will allow it. Not because of some trying to put an end to poaching.

Nothing wrong with the new system we have..Be glad your not driving around for a hour trying to find a place to check one ...Remember at one time gas was almost 4 dollars a gallon and everyone was wanting on-line checking...Just be happy you can still hunt and have a way to check deer from home or from the deerstand...

See there. This guy gets it. Go out and hunt and kill what you want or need and who gives a flip about what the others say.
