I have observed a lot of woodcock in middle TN (Lincoln County) over the least two weeks. They must be migrating back north and passing through.

I saw them every day while rabbit hunting in west Tennessee the last week of February. Too bad our woodcock season is over before they show up.

It's the same on the east side. They show up right after season closes. I guess that's ok because I think they're pretty cool to see, and very challenging to hit but they taste like dirt. I don't really have a reason to hunt them.

Today in my neck of the woods…

I got 3 pics before it flew off into a blowdown tree top..

We shot several when I was growing up..
Our bird dogs would point them like they were quail.
Back then they were usually found in swampy areas..
Definitely a challenge wing shooting them..
