Woodcock?

Reading the post about grouse hunting caused me to remember shooting woodcock years ago when I was grouse hunting. They always moved into my area of NE Tennessee late in the season. Used to find them in swampy areas while grouse hunting. Just wondering if anyone was seeing any?

I see and hear a lot of them around here. Just heard em making their noises last night at dusk. I have flushed many of them but I never really had the urge to hunt them, they are always solitary when I find em. Would rather try and get a quail or two

this time of year seems to be when I see/hear the most woodcock.

I kicked one up squirrel hunting with my cur about a week ago... like you said it was in a low lying area.

I have a couple of them on my ridge,,?? not sure why they are up there instead of being in the low areas where they should be...lol.. I have kicked them up deer hunting for the past 6-8 years

I remember seeing one when I was about 12 years old.
It was just walking around poking the ground and flipping leaves over.
Strangest thing I had ever seen. :D

Started to shoot it but it was so neat I didn't and then it just vanished.

Don't rekon I have seen one since.

We find them all winter long grouse hunting, had 5 points/flushes on Sunday. There is a decent resident population here along with the migrant birds

they pass thru my area, (Elkmont, AL), just south of the TN line from Jan thru early March every year. Man they make a different sound when they fly.
