Food Plots Wood plt

Anyone have ideas or success planting small food plots on mountains? Remote access with 4 wheeler so equipment is limited.
I can cut trees as needed, or would it be better for natural stuff to grow?

What kind of seed?
What time of year?

Back when I first started experimenting with plots, most of mine were little, tiny over-grown clearings (old log-loading lots) of about 1/4 to 1/3-acre. We cleared them with hand saws and chain saws and then used weed-eaters with brush blades to truly clear them. Then a solid application of herbicide, followed a week later by broadcasting seed and mowing as tight to the ground as possible with a string weed-eaters. Brutally hard work, but it worked. We broadcast winter wheat and crimson clover seed. Later, we advanced to self-powered pull-behind brush mowers towed by ATV, and seed spreaders on the ATV. This also allowed the use of pelletized lime and fertilizer. Eventually these little plots got fairly productive.

Very nice! I think we will be limited to string trimmers, chain saws and maybe some sort of disc that can be disassembled and carried up on 4 wheelers. Our land doesn't hold a lot of deer due to lack of browse during winter months .
I know it needs to be burned but needs perimeter fire breaks cut in.
