I just order some wood arrows, I have wanted to try them since getting into trad archery. I think some day I'd like to build my own, just not sure I have the time for it. I have pretty much shot carbons exclusively though I have played around with aluminum some. Anyone here a die hard wood arrow shooter? I ha e talked to some guys that want shoot anything else and others that claim it's way to much hassle. Guess I'll find out either way soon enough.
 
i do have some wood arrows but i'm probably lean more to being a diehard carbon shooter. after footing my GTs with 2117 aluminum shaft pieces, i have cut down busted shafts when stumping quite a bit. it took me several sets of wood to find some that fly close to the same as my carbons. i have taken both in the same quiver to 3D shoots. not sure if i will try any wood arrows in the tree stand yet.
 
I've been using wooden arrows since 1990. Once you learn a few simple tricks, they aren't that difficult to get matched well enough for any shooting you'd like to do. I will say this, even the best ones aren't as durable as carbon or aluminum. But dang I love how they fly, and when you kill your first deer with one it's hard to use anything else!

Like everything else, they've gotten expensive. When I first started using them I'd order 100 premium Port Orford Cedar shafts from Acme, who is no longer in business, and they were better than anything offered today, IMO.

I've since switched to SureWood Shafts, which are Douglas Fir, and they are very good, albeit expensive. But, building shafts from scratch helps keep me immersed in archery year round and I think that's a good thing.

Give em a try. Heck you might love em.
