Buddies and I were recently looking through our trail camera pictures and got a night vision shot of what we are pretty sure is a wolf. Too big to be a coyote...

Anyone hear of wolves in Maury County? We have a lot of caves and rock ledges on our property, so may have to start being a bit more careful. I'll post the pictures once I get home.
 
Wolves in Tennessee recently are not unheard of. There was a grey wolf killed in Shelby Farms near Memphis in the 70's. There have also been confirmed sightings of precious few red wolves on the Tennessee side of the NC border indicating that the release program initially worked. Regrettably I believe they are all dead now. I am entirely convinced I saw a red wolf near swan creek in Hickman County. He ran across a ridge leaving me with only a memory, but I am sure that is what I saw.

I highly doubt you have a wolf, maybe a itty bitty red wolf but not a Canadian Grey. Recent genetic testing has proven that Northern coyote strains have wolf genes so that is possible (meaning a bigger coyote than normal).

If greys establish in TN we will know quickly, as livestock producers will let us know.

If I aint mistaking, they did turn 200 red wolfs loose in the great smokey mountains many years ago. They was trying to get them started again, If it was a grey wolf then it was someone pet that got or turned loose. I used to own a 95% hybrid tundra wolf.
 
I'll get toasted for saying this but I'm pretty sure I saw one at daylight about 10 yrs ago. He walked out in front of me about 75 yards. Absolutely huge. I remember it like it was yesterday. It's eyes glowed like fire and absutely huge. Took a few minutes retain my composure. I have seen lots of coyotes and this was no coyote. But maybe I'm crazy.
