going metal detecting tomorrow, on a place near shiloh. it supposedly had a union blacksmith shop on the land, next to the purdy road, that union soldiers stopped on the way to/from the battle repairing stuff. supposedly hasn't been detected.

Don't forget to do a money-burning if it's a new site. ;)
will that help me find something?

Nah...my uncles down in Alabama used to have a money-burning when I was a kid in the 60's whenever they started hunting on a new piece if property, whether deer hunting or treasure hunting. Old southern superstition apparrently.

Good luck!

well ,did it help.. I'm all for anything that helps :)

i've only found worth mentioning, a 1854 1/2 dime, a big brass skeleton key, and a calvary spur from the shiloh area.

everything else has just been "junk", although neat junk..

the spur was on another place I went one time.. going to talk the FELLOW who owns the land, into going again one day.

the 1/2 dime is what got me into metal detecting.. i was kicking around an old house one day and tore a piece of floor out of the house.. picked up what I thought was a little button, but turned out to be a 1/2 dime. Learned the hard way, you don't take silver polish to an old coin.. i ruined it..

the place I'm going tomorrow, I have never detected, and supposedly nobody else has either.

Nobody detecting it could be bad or could be good :) Ya never know until you hunt it yourself I guess. Good luck to ya. I've only found two half dimes myself, 1851 and 1858.

Nothing found that amounted to much... but we had a great day anyway. found a small bullet, and old piece of a pocket knife, and a whole lot of metal.. only bad part was they had just logged the place, and a lot of dirt had been moved on the roads..

GTK, we could go back up there but the pines are now head high and thick! Least that's what brother tells me, I've not set foot on the place since we were up there a few years back.

dg7080, i've got a guy going with me now, who knows what he is doing and trying to teach me a thing or two.. i mentioned your place and he said just "holler when". i realize now after following along behind him, that these lower-end metal detectors we have will just not cut it when it comes to relic hunting.
