Wingbone calls

Gotta have a dremel tool in My opinion. A good epoxy. Make them as fancy as you like, but the ugly ones work just the same. Food grade peroxide will make them bright white

I've made several. I carry one every time I go too. It's from a Jake wing that I killed about 10 years ago. I've even called in a few birds only using it.
 
I just made two from the wings of my first bird this year. I've made two before and lost one, and I never really practiced with the other one. Clucking is easy, but putting a decent yelp together takes a little practice, mainly for consistency.

The two extras I just made from this year are each slightly different than the other. Figured I may as well play around with them and see how the differences make them sound.

I think I struggle with consistent mouth placement. I've seen other trumpets and wingbone calls with some sort of "rest" or something that slides over the mouth part that helps with that, I assume. Similar to a kisser button on a bow string, I'd imagine.

I just haven't wrapped my head around how to get something like a cork or rubber plug over the mouthpiece.
 
I've made several and carried one for years. But a few years ago a buddy gifted me a nice cane yelper (same concept, different material) that I preferred to actual bone. But dried cane is brittle and I broke the mouthpiece a couple years back. I modified it a little and replaced the mouthpiece with a hen bone. Now I think it's better than before. I use it at some point most every hunt, and it has a couple new notches this year.

That's what I use too. I get them at work. The bird I killed Monday, I didn't save the wings on it. In my experience an older and bigger bird ain't usually a good wing to make a call. The sound is coarser. I like a higher pitch sound. The one I carry when I'm hunting is from a Jake.
 
I did make one from an bigger bird once, and put a brass tube with a .062" I.D., in the mouth piece one time. It wasn't too bad sounding.
