This used to be a corn patch but as the corn comes out, I scalp it with the push mower. I still have a few stragglers in there. It will be ready for carrots or a cover crop within the next couple of weeks.
The pic below is a row of late peas (left) and beans (right). To plant the peas, I simply placed the seed on the soil underneath the thatch layer from the crabgrass and squash that grew there previously. It was up in 5 days, and weathered 2 weeks without any rain just fine.
