Windex

Anyone use it to clean your smoke-pole? I've heard it is a pretty good solvent and dries fast since it's mostly alcohol. Can you think of any negative effects?

All Ive ever used for between shot cleaning...followed by dry patch and a touch of bore butter. Has worked great with pellets loose, pyrodex, 777 any combo of these.

Windex with vinegar works good. I keep a small squirt bottle of it in my possibles bag for cleaning in the field or just plinking. At home it's soapy water and a flush tube. Plus that Windex with vinegar is all I've ever used in my blackpowder cartridge rifles.

if he's like me it keeps the rust down.

ive never understood all the rust thing and borebutter,ive never used anything but hoppes in 21 years and no gummyborebutter and never had the first speck of rust

Most people I know that use Windex use the "Windex Multi Surface Cleaner with Vinegar."

I have never tried it but I have heard it really cleans a BP MZ.

Any of the store bought glass cleaners say "with vinegar" right on the label.
Now here lately I got playing around with a home brew that seems to be working real well...I took an empty spray bottle of glass cleaner and put 3 1/2 oz. of alcohol, 3 1/2 oz. of vinegar and then filled it up with water. I think I'll stick with it for the time being.

Yup it keeps the rust down in between seasons and then it seems to make loading a second and third load easier after it gets heated up from the first shot. I loaded my smoke pole last night for this weekend's hunt in KY. Temps look good Im hoping to put something on the ground! I havent shot one with a smokepole in a few years so does or big bucks are in trouble!

I done like the smell of hopes on my deer guns...

have never used Windex before but have used Window Washer Fluid..The kind you put in your car or truck.. Also once a year i plug my touch hole and pour Peroxide down the barrel and let it sit for half hour to Fourty five minutes..It cleans it like you would not believe!! But do not do it more then once a year as it is very Caustic to the barrel...

Also once a year i plug my touch hole and pour Peroxide down the barrel and let it sit for half hour to Fourty five minutes..It cleans it like you would not believe!! But do not do it more then once a year as it is very Caustic to the barrel...

Might have to try that.
Another one I saw first hand that didn't pan out was straight vinegar. Brother-in-law took a brand spanking new jug of it and used it to clean his new Lyman Great Plains rifle...took the blue off the barrel where it ran down. He didn't do that again.

Equal parts Murphy's oil soap/ 3% solution hydrogen peroxide/ rubbing alcohol. Because of the hydrogen peroxide you need to store it a dark container. For best results, I plug the vent hole and pour a little down the bore. Hold your thumb over the muzzle and slosh it back and forth then let it set for a minute or so. Pour it out and follow with a proper jag patch combo with maybe a little more solution. Dry, spray down with WD40, dry and follow with your favorite gun oil, all inside and out.It probably doesn't take me 5 minutes to clean any of my black powder firearms with this method. Been doing this for years and have never had any problems. One other hint, when you're storing your muzzle loader, do so with the muzzle down. this prevents any oil and possible small amounts of residue from draining into the vent area. Helps alot in preventing hang or miss fires.
