Wind Shift Movement Opinion Question

Movement Opinion Question: I've been seeing some come out in the same place for the last three days, morning and evening. I didn't get to go this morning. With the wind shift (north yesterday, south today), do you think they came out in the same place this morning?

I've seen both. Sometimes they will approach with the wind wrong. Depends where they bed. The won't do a 360 around the field so they can enter with a wind advantage. My advice would be to hunt them while they are on that pattern. It could change anytime. Make sure you have the wind you need for where they enter the field. Good luck.

I agree with this. Do you have a diagram of the field? maybe we could help more...?

Bucks enter from a different direction because of a wind and or thermal change but there's more to it than just that.

The wind direction changed their bedding.

Alot of times a deer will wait for the last minute of daylight to walk down into a bottom field not only because of dark but mostly because the thermals start to sink when the sun goes down and they can't catch the thermals coming up anymore.

I'd rather not post the diagram. The Bucks that are over there aren't ones I want. Mainly does that come out. More of a curiosity question. I have a set over there; I may sit there tonight just to see how it pans out this afternoon. Just wondered if there was some general rule or common knowledge on the subject.

there is very rarely a general rule when it comes to deer movement...good luck!

I was just wondering this the other day. I have a good early season afternoon spot that's part of an ag field kind of in the shape of a horseshoe relatively small off shoot of a big ag field 75 yards wide and 125-150 yards long. The west side is a cedar thicket (known bedding area) the east side has been select cut with good bedding as well, the south side has a large ditch that can't be crossed backing up to this field. Have two spots for this field one for a North wind one for a South wind. Just my observations from hunting this field for a few years but how the wind is blowing does dictate how they come out. South wind they enter from the east and west but at the southern portion of the field. North wind they'll pour out of the cedar thicket at the northern end. Just my observations from hunting one particular field. Good luck

I wish over the years I'd have kept records of deer movement through hunting areas as well as camera sites. It would be interesting to know that if I saw deer movement from and headed in a specific direction during a certain current wind direction would it be repeated only during that same wind direction or if movement through that area was curtailed until that wind direction was repeated. That knowledge would certainly come in handy picking previously hunted spots for future hunts.

Haven't been back since last night. They came out in the same spot. A little later, but the same spot. Passed a doe at 30 yds and ended up with a yote.

All deer an situations are different. Now if your hunting big woods bucks, yes they might bed dictating on wind direction. But when your hunting open country deer that's not possible.

Just this past week i watched a bachelor group of bucks (2 mature) come out the same place 2 afternoons in a row. Once on a due west once on a South East.

So the next day with any west I'll be sitting on that trail.
