Remind me again...weather.com has wind directions, but if it show WNW--is that coming from or blowing toward WNW? I get it mixed up sometimes. Also, whats the best way to pick stands accordingly---do topos show true N,S,E, and W? Do you base direction by the sun rise/set? I dont use a compass, so I'm wanting to make sure I'm not missing anything the way I'm doing it.
 
Always coming from. I use it to change the direction if it isn't from the direction I want it. Simply highlight the direction, hit delete and then type in the direction you want it to be from.

That's the craziest thing I have ever heard you say. Everyone knows you don't do that. I know what you do, and I am going to share it, so don't get mad for telling your secrete. Bowriter takes 3 big fans and points them in his direction, and turns them on high, so he always has the wind in his face !
 
Yeah but I am getting tired of dragging that extension cord in and out. I may have to get a pack to carry it in, my pockets are about worn through.
 
Primos has an ap called the wind checker. It puts your position on a map and then shows an arrow and wind currents blowing over your position. I have tested it with a wet finger and its very accurate. I thinks is .99 on the i phone. I need something simple like this so I don't have to get out my compass everytime.

I had this question several yrs ago, could never keep it right in my head. then, a TnDeer regular set me straight. I never have gotten mixed up again. He said:

So to that, if weather.com shows WNW- we would say it is blowing to thw WNW?
 
Wind is always given in the direction it is blowing from.

The best way to think about it is, the wind direction given is the direction you would have to turn and look to have the wind blowing directly into your face.

A good app.

I would like to also suggest Scout Look Weather. You place your stand locations on a satellite image (looks to be from Google Earth). Once you have your locations marked (can be stands, food plots, etc), you can click on the marker and get current and forecast weather for that immediate spot, as opposed to just info from the city or zip code level. You can mark the spots manually on the map, or input them from the field if you have the phone app.

The feature that makes it so useful is the Scentzone button. Click your stand, and it will overlay a cone of wind from that stand, showing which way it is blowing, and how strong it is. It lets you see current wind direction at the spot, and up to 72 hours of forecast wind direction. Takes all of the guess work out.

Best of all, it is free. And i also got the phone app for $1.99 to be able to access the weather radar and wind direction forecasts while i am in the tree.
