Opening day for rifle weather forecast, at least in my neck of middle TN, is forecast to be windy (and warm and rainy come Sunday). I have rarely had much success hunting whitetails on windy days (say, wind speed above 15 mph). Looks like we'll be close to that and in excess at times with gusts approaching 20 mph (as of current forecast).

This Outdoor Life article casts considerable doubt on a windy day negatively affecting deer movement, at least for dawn and dusk movement. http://www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/huntin ... waste-time. However, a windy day could require a change in approach.

Do you consider wind speed or is it low down on the list of factors that would encourage you to get out there or sit out a day? Are there any tactics that you employ for a windy day or do you hunt a windy day the same as a calm day?

high winds hurt deer movement

that being said, its ALL about the hot doe right now in middle TN... the deer I shot yesterday was in consistent 15-20mph winds with freezing rain and snow. He was tending an estrous doe
