Winchester model 94 help

I bought a used model 94 30 30 recently, when I took it to the range today i discovered a problem. When you load it the loading port cover pushed out past the loading slot, extending itself half to three quarters of an inch past the line of the side of the barrel. Is there an adjustment that can be made or do I need a new piece or is there some other factor that can cause this.

Are you able to post a pic to clarify your description, I think I know what you are saying but not 110% sure.

lol hmm never have ...will try tomorrow..meanwhile...you know when you load your bullets there is a small " door" that you push down and when you put in the last one it moves back more or less even with the side of the barrel. On mine while it sits there even before you load when the bullets are in and drop back down that "door" pushes out past the side of the barrel. It is attached at the butt end so the part toward the barrel pushes out.

Ok, first off it is the receiver the loading door is attached to.

Is the "flapper" sticking out of the gun through the hole or into the inside of the receiver and not returning to it's rested normal position?

The "flapper" is a piece of spring steel that flexes and is held in place with a tiny screw located directly behind the loading window. Check the screw to make sure it is tight, if so it sounds like the "flapper" has been bent. I had one on my Marlin do that and the extractor hooked it and got jammed, I had to disassemble the lever assembly and remove the "flapper" to straighten and reassemble it.

If that is what the problem is.

After looking at a bunch of sites it appears the correct name is loading gate. You were correct the screw was loose. I aligned and tightened the screw and it seems to be ok. Will see how it holds up when I shoot it..thanks for the help.
