Winchester Model 74 ?

Do any of you guys have a Winchester Model 74? I'm in possession of the only one that I've ever handled. It belongs to a good friend and I'll be taking it down or cleaning and then confirming it functions as it should. The serial number dates it to 1941 and it's in almost new condition with just a few handling marks. Gonna do a deep dive for all the disassembly info that I can get before doing anything to it. One thing that I've already read is to NOT chocolate chip cookie the action with the safety in the ON position. That pretty much renders the rifle locked up and very hard to remedy, usually resulting in breaking something internal.

A few things to watch for. The trigger is pinned into the stock and not actually on the receiver. When replacing the rifle in the stock it can be tricky to engage the trigger with the sear and I seem to remember a cartridge interuptor or something. The firing pin is kinda wimpy with a fin that is an alignment guide that can be bent. I never worked on one that seemed to be in new condition like you describe. The ones I had to work on were just the opposite. Rode hard and put away wet!

If it fuctions then just give it a good spray cleaning and blow it out with compressed air, oil it, and blow it out again before putting the action back into the stock.

I've had one for years and have always kept it clean this way with no need for disassembly.
