It will absolutely let you take a fixed load and dial it in to shoot better. It is true if you handload, you can work up a load for your gun to do the same thing. I have a 7mm Mag that I handload for, but it's also the only rifle I ever shoot any factory from. I can take cheap Hornady Whitetail 139 grain, set the BOSS on 3.2 and shoot 3/4 inch groups. Adjust the BOSS either direction and groups start opening up to about 3 inches at the extreme. I've done the same with handloads, heavier bullets seem to like a different setting. I think it's pretty cool to have that adjustment available to adjust the rifle to the load. Another tool in the toolbox. Funny because I would probably have never bought one myself and it's the only BOSS rifle I have, but this is a Winchester Super Grade that was gifted to me, and now it's one of my favorite rifles because I can consistently get just about any load from 120 grains to heavies to shoot remarkable well.
I have tried shooting both with just a thread protector, and a suppressor, and the gun just flat shoots better with the BOSS on the appropriate setting.
