A local store carries the blackhorn powder but neither of the primers recommended by blackhorn. They carry the Winchester 209 shotgun primers. Would those work?

GMB54 can probably answer that for ya. What set up are you shooting btw? I know I can't even use BH209 powder with my pre 2009 CVA Kod Mag b/c of a breech plug design issue.

Standard Win209 primers work in my Knights just fine but my breach plug is a bit different in geometry than the CVA BH209 plug. DON'T get WinT7 primers. Those are for Triple7 and other subs.

My best guess is yes they will work but you may be better off with a Fed209A primer. I know Fiocchi primers work in the CVA and Western Powders BH209 plugs. CVA also sells a shim kit for the firing pin bushing. These help take up the head space between the primer and frame. Done right it can improve the reliability too. The shim kits are about $5 and simple to install.

Call Ed's Gun shop and ask for Carlos. Tell him you need the shim kit and the Western Powders BH209 plug for your CVA. He has excellent pricing and service. Ask about buying primers too. Carlos knows his stuff and isn't just a salesman. He is a very competent ML shooter too.

I'm shooting regular Winchester 209 primers with Blackhorn 209 and haven't had any issues. I did not get to test other regular primers, however, so cannot offer any comparisons.
