When my health went south last year, I got rid of most of my guns. My only shotgun now is an old model 37 12g that was my dad's. I've been shooting it since I was 11. It's mine now. I've killed turkey with it before...just using lead #5s. It has a fixed full choke. I measured it.... .691".
This year I found some tss to try...then got to thinking...is it safe? A Google search yielded a bunch of....don't try it..it could bulge the barrel...or worse. A few that say it works fine.
My question...has anyone actually tried it?
I've shot steel #2s out of it with no problem with bridging...and I would think that a higher risk than with #9s. I want to try it, but I don't want to blow myself up or this heirloom.

I wonder if a bunch of it isn't like shooting slugs. A lot of people say you can't out of a fixed full, but I've done it my entire life with no problems.

So, what say you....can it be done safely?
 
I would think TSS would be ok. I mean I you aren't going to shoot many. I've got a 16 and a 12 Model 37. Great old guns. Have you tried any 2 3/4" Magnum ammo in it?

No, I haven't. The #5s I shoot are 1.5 oz Remingtons. The tss I found is 1.5 oz. I would think pressure wise, it should be about the same.

No, I haven't. One of the Google results I got... someone said they contacted them. Supposedly, Winchester told them they didn't know, but for the sake of safety...not to do it.

That said, when I was shooting a CZ, I contacted them about shooting tss in it. They said...no tighter than improved modified.
I think the standard answer is going to be...don't shoot tss in a full choke. But people do it all the time. Some even tighter than full. 🤷

I've got an old Savage 94C that was my grandfather's he had it sleeved for turkey shoots. I don't know what the constriction is on it but it throws a heck of a pattern with Apex or Verdict 2 3/4" #8 TSS at 40. I think your Winchester will be fine.
 
I have a Stevens 410 fixed full. I've shot many a tss thru it shooting paper. Pretty sure Hal abbot shoots a lot of old fixed full chokes was told that was why he started messing with tss. I would think you are fine with it.
 
I'd think you'd be fine with a 2.75" load of TSS 9 shot. Call or look at APEX's website....

I believe they have a load specifically designed to be used for those older shotguns...guys that want to shoot a turkey with their grand-dad's shotgun and such. I seem to remember reading something like that on their website.
 
Probably the worst would be opening the choke up from full, not sure how much you value the pattern with regular shot, may get better may get worse, not sure how much it would take either.
