Williamsport Quota Hunt

How crowded are the quota hunts at Williamsport?
I would think that 100 hunters on 1700 acres would be running all over each other.
I've never hunted public land and was thinking about putting in for the mid November quota hunt.

Nah they bunch up in the fields and I only seen 20 or so names on the hunt I drew last year

There are a lot of hunters for sure. Not unhuntable, but you will need to scout for several backup areas and expect to see Elmer when you are sitting in the tree. With a little luck, you might get a spot to yourself for the day and maybe see a deer. It's kind of a brown down hunt, not for trophy bucks, it's a mgmt hunt.

I've hunted it. Not a terrible experience, Saw only a doe and it seemed as if we were pretty much alone most of the day. but it's better than working.

Thanks for all the information, I have a couple of more questions.
Are there any rules on putting up a ladder stand or popup blind?
And what's the approved hunter etiquette if you see a hunter close by after the sun comes up. (maybe a stupid question)

ask area mgr (Tommy Edwards) for approval to leave stand or blind unattended longer than 24 hours. You could put it up the day before and hunt it everyday without needing approval if I'm not mistaken. Just don't leave it alone for more than a day.

If you set up and there's another hunter nearby, it's your call. I'd stay there if I had good confidence in the spot. You could be 50 yards apart and one could see different deer that the other couldn't.

If you walk in the dark and someone shines a light at you, go hunt another spot. Don't get too mad if someone else comes in and ignores your light and hunts across the hollow, that happened to me a couple years ago, but is part of it.
