Will trophy rocks melt in three days?

I just put one out two weeks ago. The 10th I had two armadillos licking it and the next pic was the 13th.. no rock. Instead there was a white glaze over the "walls" of the hole. I don't care that it did that, but is that normal? I'm guessing it was when we recently had that long series of hard rains for a few days.

how much rain did you get? Is it possible someone stole the rock and pulled your card and deleted their pic? that is very possible but I don't know how likely it would be in your spot.

I'm not a TR user, however I've tried several.. I did have one pretty much melt in a week, but did have over an inch of rain during that week on it.. I've heard a heavy rain is hard on em, especially one that is on the ground..

I have one in my truck now that was gave to me.. I plan on putting it out at an already established mineral lick this week.. I'm not against em, just seen better results from trace mineral on ground.

Send odd in that short off time. I don't use them but thought about it. I simply use cheap baking soda. Always works and super cheap.

as much as deer chew up the dirt, I don't think it would be a problem unless the salt ran off and dispersed. If it's all in the ground right there you should still have a good salt lick.

Same here. But, I don't put them in a hole, but rather upon a stump.

No way, weve had a ton of rain recently and my mineral sites have trophy rocks that are small and several months old and they are still doing fine. Not to say it's not possible, but I've used trs for a while and never had that issue.

I would for sure look around the general vicinity, it is likely there close by, unless somebody took it, which has happened to several I believe, myself included.

Same here, they work ok but cost way more than Loose trace mineral salt that gets equal or better results for much less $$
Them dissolving wont hurt anything however as the deer will still get the salt their after through the dirt its leeched into.

I had one melt on me last year in like 3-4 days. I put it in a spot that when it rained water ran down the hill by it. I then replaced it and put some flat rocks down and put the TR on top of them. it lasted for a long time.

I put one in a hole on the edge of a field a few weeks ago. The hole is actually where the water runs off the field but looked like an already established lick. Anyways, it rained the next couple of days after I put the rock out. I go back to check the trail cam a week later and the entire rock is gone! There is a white residue in the hole but no rock. I have had others that get rained on for months and don't dissolve.

Maybe the rocks are not of the same consistency? Either way, it's in the ground right?

Yep... It dissolved.. Salt and mineral is still in the hole though.

Can't believe they haven't came out with a loose Trophy Rock type stuff that can be poured out.. Guess that defeats the whole purpose of Trophy "Rock"..

They have trophy rock 465. I've never used it though.

I've never heard of using baking soda. But, it does have salt in it. I guess that makes sense. It is after all sodium bicarbonate which can be beneficial.

Ive never had a TR melt in 3 days. Most of the time they have lasted for 3-6 months depending on game usage and weather. Only thing ive had melt away after a few days is the 50lb mineral blocks from tractor supply. They work just as well as the TR but its kind of a $6 waste if you get alot of rain.

I have had a trophy rock melt in that time as well as a 50 lb mineral block from Tractor supply. If you place a block on top of a stump it is less likely to dissolve away. Sitting on the ground with runoff water going by will dissolve one in no time.

A 50lb block for $6 is a no brainer for me. Place it on a stump and it should last for many many months.

I've used all the above with similar results. As far as the trophy rock melting goes it is due to rain. The minerals leech into the soil but the deer will still be attracted to them similar to liquid deer cane.

not likely, but who knows?........I had 1500+ pics in a two week period where I have a doe. who never leaves the lick for more than a little while, almost 2 hours in the same spot!~!! They camped out on mine and I can tell you it is the same story on all 4 cameras on our 3000 acre lease. Amazing, maybe they ate it!!!
