Wife gun choice

Looking to get her one. She has never gun hunted. Just a couple times of ML. I like a .308 and 7mm08. What do you all think. I'm leaning towards the .308 for now.

I have a browning xbolt 7mm-08 and I like it a lot. I don't think you could go wrong with either though.

Don't overlook the 6.5 creedmore right now, as it has readily available ammo and similar performance as the other two that you mentioned, possibly with less recoil

Of the two, 7-08 would be my choice, regardless of the wife. ;)

7mm-08 should have less recoil. My wife, daughter, and I all use .243 and 7mm-08. All have very soft recoil. The .243, 7mm-08, and the .308 will kill whitetail well beyond 300 yds.

Make sure she goes "shopping" with you. Give her a lot of room to pick out the rifle style she likes. It will do wonders with her confidence.

This. Some guns just fit different, and if it fits her right, she'll be happier with it.

7mm-08 if she has no issues with recoil. I don't have empirical evidence to back it up but in my personal experience, it is probably one of the most lethal deer rounds ever created. I have never...(please don't curse me) had a deer go more than 40 yards with my 7mm-08 using rem core-lotk 140gr. I have been shooting this round for over 20 years. Two of my friends and my dad have been so impressed over the years they now all own 7mm-08s. I would say fit will be equally important as the round you choose. I just purchased a Ruger American with a vortex diamondback and am extremely impressed with the accuracy, build quality and cost. My go-to gun is a Remington Model 7ss with a Leupold 2-7. The Ruger is for my kid.

And, with the 7-08, you can load down if you're a handloader, then up for other instances as the need arises. Wide selection of bullet sizes as well for most game in North America, from varmint to large game.

I have a Tikka M595 that shoots the Remington Corlokt 140 gr very well for factory ammo.

Honestly, no need to use anything other than the Remington core-lokt. 140gr. I have tried everything available and have always come back to the Remingtons.

My son has hunted with a 7/08 and has killed 8 deer with it. He has never had a deer even take a step after the shot. It has dropped everyone of them in their tracks.

7-08, 6.5 creedmoor, or 243. A light recoiling 243 with 85-100 gr bullets will get the job done and she should shoot better if she's not use to proper shooting former.

I would like the 243 for light recoil and a good deer round. Also, dont leave out a 260. It is also a good round.
