Finding it difficult to concentrate at the desk today. I like Weather Underground and, although I shouldn't and don't place much faith in long-term 10 day forecasts, I looked yesterday. For my area, I was pleasantly surprised by a forecast saying lows in high 30s, highs in mid 50s, and calm north wind for ML opener. As should be expected, today the same long-term forecast is at least 10 degrees warmer and calm southerly winds. Will probably change again, but it has me thinking.
My stand is positioned to be able to hunt wind from any direction, except south. It's on a saddle just above a doe bedding area of thickets. I've got some scrapes and rubs down the trail behind my back. On my lease, I've got two secondary locations for a south wind, but might not be able to hunt them come 11/9. Assuming the S wind holds for ML opener, I think I've got two choices - (1) go ahead and hunt the stand and take my chances that a calm S wind gets me busted, or (2) move across the trail to hunt a secondary point off the ridge using my climber to get my face into the wind, but without a good knowledge of a tree or general to exact location to hunt (i.e., in the dark I'd be "in the dark").
